Abbotsford Junior Football Club (AJFC) has a strong history of female football development and has offered girls and women the opportunity to play football since its introduction by the Football Canterbury Association in 2011. We serve female football players from across the City of Canada Bay Council catchment with players sourced primarily from the suburbs of Abbotsford, Chiswick, Drummoyne, Five Dock, Russell Lea and Wareemba. AJFC is now the equal 3rd largest Club in the Football Canterbury Association in terms of female team participation and has the largest female player participation of any Club in the City of Canada Bay Council area. The result is that AJFC has female teams participating in all age groups and at most levels of ability during the Winter Football Season.
Mini-Roos Football (5 to 7 years)
Our popular AJFC Mini-Roos program provides girls with the opportunity to start their football journey as part of a Mini-Roos football team of mixed boys and girls players.
Open to girls aged 5 to 7 years, the program provides access to a mid-week training time along with regular Saturday morning games at AJFC’s home fields against other AJFC teams.
Participation in a team formed around friendship/school groups is encouraged with introductory football skills training specifically for girls regularly conducted by the Club during preseason.
Junior Football (7 to 12 years)
Abbotsford Juniors offers access to mixed (boys and girls) and girls-only football for female players aged 7 to 12 as part of our Junior football programs.
Girls can join AJFC teams in Under 8 to Under 12 age groups playing in mixed or dedicated female-only Football Canterbury Association non-competitive football leagues at a range of skill levels. Teams based around girls school and friendship groups are catered for where player numbers permit. Teams will typically train once per week and play of games against other Club teams on a Sunday morning.
Youth Football (13 to 19 years)
Female youth players aged between 11 to 18 years are able to play competitive football as part of an Abbotsford Juniors Girls (or Mixed) team within the Football Canterbury Association’s “Home and Away” competitive leagues.
AJFC female-only competitive football teams are offered in Under 13, Under 14, Under 15 and Under 16 age groups and as part of a combined Under 19 age group competition for female players aged 16 to 19.
Games for female youth teams are played against teams from Clubs across the Association on Sundays (with youngest age groups usually commencing first) with team training taking place on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening.
Adult Football (18 years and Over)
Abbotsford Juniors has a strong record in adult female football with the Club represented in the Football Canterbury Association’s Over 30/35 Women age group competition since the introduction of competitive female football.
From first time playing opportunities for women in Over 35 Women and All Age Women age groups through to teams for more experienced competition players, AJFC offers a range of participation options for women wishing to play competitive/social football in the City of Canada Bay Council area.

Female Football Coaches at AJFC
Abbotsford Juniors Football Club is dependent on our volunteer coaches to train, develop, mentor and support all our football players, particularly our Mini-Roos and Junior players. Our coaches are usually AJFC community members; parents, relatives, carers and often, players. We actively welcome and support female members of our community who are interested in undertaking this rewarding role.
Female coaches are offered comprehensive support by the Club in the form of dedicated female coach training opportunities and instruction, briefings and coaching support from the Club help ensure their success.
Summer Football for Female Players
Female players who join Abbotsford Juniors Football Club have access 6-a-side Summer football directly through the FC Sixes Summer Competition which features teams playing mid-week nights on smaller sized fields with modified rules. The FC Sixes competition covers most age groups from Under 8 Girls to Senior Women (All Age and Over 35 Women) teams.
AJFC also provides support for groups of our players who elect to participate in one of the many Summer football competitions run across Sydney’s inner western suburbs
