The Coaches Code of Conduct applies to all coaches who register with Abbotsford Juniors Football Club. In registering to act as a Coach with Abbotsford Junior Football Club (“the Club”), I agree to comply with this Code of Conduct.
Coach Behaviour
As a Coach and member of a team with Abbotsford Juniors Football Club I agree to:
- Always play by the rules and regulations of the Club and the Association and teach players to do the same
- Always act in accordance with the Club’s Core Values
- Comply with the AJFC Member Protection Policy and all other relevant AJFC Policies and Procedures
- Cooperate with my team members, opponents and officials
- Never argue with an official. Where I disagree with a decision, I will remember that officials, like coaches can make mistakes
- Control my temper. Verbal abuse, sledging, deliberately distracting or provoking officials, players, coaches, managers or any other participant in the sport are not acceptable behaviour. Encourage your players to do the same.
- Not ridicule, bully or take unfair advantage of a player, coach, spectator or official
- Not arrive at the field intoxicated or under the influence of illicit substances
- Not consume alcohol or illicit substances at junior and youth matches
- Exercise caution toward sick or injured players and follow the advice of any physician when considering whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition
- Avoid any physical contact with players and should it ever be required it would be appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player’s football development
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion
- Act in a responsible manner and accept responsibility for my actions
Youth Team Coach Behaviour
As a Coach and member of a junior or youth team with Abbotsford Juniors Football Club, I also agree to:
- Take responsibility for the behaviour and actions of my players when representing the Club, both on and off the pitch
- Ensure that the time players spend with me is a positive experience. I understand that all players are deserving of equal attention and opportunity
- Avoid overplaying more talented players; all players need and deserve equal time
- Ensure that equipment and facilities I use meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all my players
- Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of young players
Breach of this Code of Conduct
I understand that any breach of the Coaches Code of Conduct may result in sanctions being imposed upon me by Abbotsford Junior Football Club. At the discretion of the Club, these may include:
- A verbal or written warning
- Removal from the technical area and/or from the field or stadium
- A fine or suspension imposed by the Club
- A fine or suspension imposed by the Football Canterbury Association (“the Association”)
- Cancellation of your registration as a Coach with the Club
- Loss of membership of the Club
- Rejection of your registration as a Coach with the Club for any future season
- And/or legal proceedings
